Melissa Artemis Shemanna is an oracular practitioner, visionary artist, and temple keeper whose life has been devoted to the embodied exploration of spiritual lineages, initiatory traditions, and sacred arts. Her pathway spans over five decades of direct experience, integrating yogic disciplines, tantric systems, Indigenous wisdom traditions, esoteric art practices, and self-initiated visionary rites.This document serves as a formal record of lifelong spiritual practice, initiatory pathways, mentorships, and lived experience across multiple traditions, spanning over five decades of embodied study, devotion, and direct transmission.

I. Foundational Lineage & Early Initiation (1979–1991)

Hatha Yoga (Early Childhood Initiation)
From age 3, Melissa began practising Hatha Yoga under the guidance of her father, Jeff Barnes, receiving early philosophical insight and embodied yogic teachings.

Kriya Yoga & Self-Realisation Fellowship Lineage
Initiated at age 6 into Kriya Yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation) by her father, a devoted practitioner within the lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda.
Attended satsangs at the Sydney branch, absorbing teachings on yogic philosophy, realised masters, and ancient spiritual traditions from an early age.

Karate – Kosho-Ryu Kenpo (Old Pine Tree Style)
1979–1991: 12 years of disciplined martial arts training under Jeff Barnes (Sensei), both at home and in formal dojo classes.
Achieved Brown Belt with two white stripes.

II. Indigenous, Earth-Based & Vision Quest Initiations

Vision Quest – Dharawal Nation (Wodi Wodi, Mt Mitchell)
Initiation and sacred vision quest undertaken on ancestral land within the Dharawal Nation.

Mentorship with Bob Randall (Tjilpa / Uncle Bob Randall)
One-year live-in mentorship receiving daily teachings in Indigenous philosophy, cultural law, and spiritual relationship to land.
Included:

• Sacred site visitations

• Direct transmission teachings

• A “Lighting Being” initiation

 

White Owl Dreaming – Susan Reys (Duliny)
Year-long initiation within a group of 13 women under Aboriginal Elder Susan Reys (Jirrbal, Butchulla, Daarba lineages).
Included:

• Transmission of White Owl Dreaming

• Completion of a sacred painting as part of a collective cultural project

• Ongoing relational learning through Dreaming-based knowledge systems

 

III. Buddhist & Vajrayana Lineages (1997 onward)

Rigpa – Dzogchen (Nyingma School)
1997: Took refuge with Tsongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche.
Completed Streams 1 & 2 teachings at Rigpa Sydney Centre (organisation founded by Sogyal Rinpoche).

Direct Teachings & Transmission

• Personal teachings and meetings with His Eminence the 7th Dzogchen Rinpoche, Jigme Losel Wangpo

• Direct encounter with Sogyal Rinpoche during private residence stay within close community

• Direct Dream transmission with Namkai Norbu

• Vajrayogini & Heruka Tantra Initiations from Thubten Zopa Rinpoche (1998)

• Vajrayogini Tantra Initiation (2008) with a private master

• Khandro Nyingthig (Dakini Heart Essence) / Khandro Tuktik (Dudjom Rinpoche lineage), focusing on Yeshe Tsogyal teachings (2006 - 2025 in various intervals)

• Kurukulla Dakini Initiation & Yidam deity practice (2026)

IYENGAR YOGA 1998–2000: Mentorship with Anastasia Yatras (Wollongong, NSW)

Retreat-based study and practice at Rocklyn Yoga Ashram (VIC), rooted in the teachings of Swami Satyananda Saraswati

 

V. Tantric, Feminine Mysteries & Initiatory Practices

13 MOON BLOOD MYSTERIES (2006–2007)
Initiation with teachers Kaggi Valentine and Sh’ana Shean within a 13-month women’s mystery school, alongside six initiate women (Clan Mothers).
Practices included:

• Womb and moon cycle tracking

• Traditional sweat lodge preparation (fire keeping, stone carrying)

• Women’s ceremonial circles (tipi-based)

• Sacred song and cosmology

• 4-day solo vision quest

Role as Vision Quest Midwife (Post-Initiation)

Supported women through subsequent initiatory cycles up until 2020.

 

PARATAN & MAHAVIDYA TRADITION 
One-year personal tantric mentorship and initiation with Shri Param Eswaran (Mahavidya Temple, Tamil Nadu, India).
Training included:

• ParaTan Inner Sakthi Yoga

• Direct work with Dasha Mahavidyas (Ten Tantric Goddesses)

• Experiential mantra and meditation practices rooted in the Living Goddess Tradition

 

VI. Esoteric, Mythological & Magical Apprenticeships

Mentorship with Bruno Torfs (2003–2009)
Training in esoteric sculpture, sacred art processes, and lived magical practice within Bruno’s Sculpture Garden environment.
Included caretaking, artistic production, and immersion in mythopoetic creation.

 

Spiritual & Common Law Apprenticeship with Krom Cruach (Ross Drake) (2003–2026)
Long-term mentorship including:

• Mythological systems (Tuatha Dé Danann, Arthurian, Scottish, Welsh traditions)

• Sacred Indigenous Australian site pilgrimages and Elder encounters

• Study of Common Law, Equity Law, and Indigenous Law/Lore

• Participation in collaborative ritual and art projects

 

Pathways to Shambala (2007–2008)
Participation in ritual working journal process shared within women’s groups across Victoria.

 

Silver Point Initiation & Vision Quest (2009)
Self-initiated year-long inner alchemical working culminating in a vision quest atop a sacred women’s initiation mountain (Healesville, Yarra Valley).

 

VII. Cosmological Systems & Dreaming Practices

Mayan Dreamspell Workings
Study with Maya Seven Suns within the Dreamspell system originating from José Argüelles.
Included:

• Retreats at Wollumbin Mountain (2015) and Yarra Valley (2018)

• Pilgrimage to view original works as part of initiatory engagement with the lineage

 

VIII. Arts Foundations, Teaching & Cultural Leadership

OMNICULTURE (1994–2008)
Founder of an arts and cultural initiative for societal transformation:

• Established studio gallery and arts market at Old Scarborough Hotel (NSW South Coast)

• Expanded to Melbourne (2000–2003) at FOUND Project Space (Brunswick Street, Fitzroy)

• Curated exhibitions, events, and community-based arts programming

 

THE HONEYBEE TEMPLE ARTS POLLINATOR (Founded 2009 – Present)
Founder of a private arts foundation and NGO dedicated to sacred arts, ritual, esoteric knowledge, and oracular culture.
Includes:

• Yarra Valley based embassy

• Formal charter, articles of association, and art ledger

• Ongoing international cultural and artistic initiatives

 

NECTAR OF LIFE YOGA (2011–2021)
Founder and lead teacher:

• Delivered 13 weekly classes, workshops, and retreats (Australia & Bali)

• Teaching roles at Kundalini House (North Fitzroy), RACV Healesville Country Club, and The Wellness Factory (Healesville)

 

IX. Temple Life, Community & Devotional Living (2010–2022)

THE HONEYBEE TEMPLE Residence – Moora Moora Cooperative (Mt Toolebewong)
Established and operated a live-in temple, home, and art studio within a 700-acre off-grid wildlife sanctuary community.

• Raised two sons (Jasper, b. 1998; Liwanu, b. 2003) as a single mother

• Hosted ritual gatherings, plant medicine ceremonies, art exhibitions, and initiatory rites

• Operated The Honeybee Temple Arts Foundation from this base

• Undertook a mentorship with Ariella Dayley on Sacred Beekeeping practices and spiritual mythological Honeybee Priestess knowledge. 

• Oracular practices in dreamwork, land based transmissions, ancient priestess rites of passage and ritual based initiations.

 

X. Pilgrimage, International Work & Current Practice

EUROPEAN & UK ART PILGRIMAGE (2022–2025)
Undertook extended pilgrimage across Belgium, Portugal, France, and the UK (Forest Row, Sussex):

• Creation of new artworks

• Pilgrimage to sacred sites, megaliths, and cathedrals

• Curation of solo and international exhibitions

• Participation in mythological ritual theatre

• Initiation into Her Sacred Fires; a Rite of passage with the The Hecate Temple in Glastonbury England run by High Priestess Sorita Deste

• Establishment of international community networks

 

Return to Australia (Dec 2025–Present)
Re-established base in Melbourne, with ongoing plans for continued international work and retrieval of artworks held in the UK.
