'Labyrinth of Alchemised Honey'

is a new exhibition of an extensive body of works by Australian artist and curator Melissa Artemis Shemanna & Australian/Belgian artist Orryelle Defenestrate- Bascule.

The Crypt Gallery, in St Pancras London

 is the raw and underground backdrop for this sumptuously presented exhibition of original oil & tempera grassa paintings atmospherically lit on antique cavern like walls. Sculptures of clay, wood, bronze and dripping honeycomb are installed throughout the labyrinthine space, revealing the magic and mystery of natures sacred essence. Hanging poetry and inspiring prose written on paper and silken fabric -is an invitation to meander through a sensuous foray for contemplation. Projections of telluric images evocative of the mythic glyphs of our universal mother tongue, flicker on the walls of the earthen womb, taking you beyond time and space into the numinous dreaming, regenerative symbols and sigils revivify the font of Mnemosyne to remember what we have long forgotten. These sacred intentions brought to form and presented within a magical container, offer a precious way of relating to the living myth within us all.

Original Paintings, Sculptures, Drawings, & limited edition prints are available exclusively during this exhibition.

Labyrinth of Alchemised Honey is a production of
The Honeybee Temple Arts Pollinator

(N.G.O, non for profit, private Art Foundation), and is curated by Melissa Shemanna.

ABOUT

the artists:

Originating from Australia and currently based in the UK, Melissa Artemis Shemanna is a visionary artist and curator who initiates the viewer into the experience of her works through the living myth and magic of her art form. A custodian of ancient wisdom, Melissa works in the totemic lineage of the Honeybee Dreaming Priestess, as an oracular embodiment, becoming a conduit of esoteric knowledge to be passed on as sacred ritual. Her canvases serve as visionary portals, where the mysterious and profound intersect with a strong sense of purpose, that expresses her devotion to art as a potent magical rite.

Melissa Artemis Shemanna began both oil painting and esoteric practice at a very early age, and has nurtured and dedicated her pathway towards the evolution of this ever since. Being initiated into Yogic, Tantrik, 13 Moon sacred blood mysteries, oracular divination arts and Honeybee Priestess & Medicine woman original traditions, amongst others, Shemanna is a lifelong devotee to the magical arts.  Melissa’s painting practice is mainly focused on the medium of traditional oils and tempera grassa, applied in multiple glazed layers to create translucent lenses of refracted colour. Often mixing her own paint from pigments and hand made mediums, Melissa enjoys the alchemy that is part of the traditional paint making process.

Since arriving in the UK & Europe, Melissa has exhibited her works in multiple shows including;

a major solo exhibition 'Starfire' in Hackney Wick London, 'OneiropraXis' exhibition with her partner Orryelle Defenestrate at Hastings Museum and Gallery UK,  'Breaking Convention Visionaries' at Exeter University, 'TranStates' Esoteric Convention Gallery in North Hampton University, 'Haekem' Gallery Brussels Belgium, Ritual Arts Conference Amsterdam and more.

Melissa has now curated two consecutive years of the Medicine Festival International Visionary art gallery

at Wasing Estate showcasing the artworks of shamanic, traditional medicine carriers and visionary luminaries from around the world. Melissa through her arts pollinator, and has also curated Death & Rebirth Festival Gallery in Amsterdam 2023
