"Guardian of the Springs"

This powerful painting by Melissa Shemanna portrays a sacred guardian of the springs, rendered first in moonblood as a covenant to the artist’s divine purpose on Earth. The central figure embodies the wisdom of the Pythia and the Melissae priestesses—ancient oracular guides and keepers of sacred knowledge.

Surrounded by a vibrant halo of flowers, fruits, and symbols of fertility, she sits grounded in a flowing spring, her hands immersed in the rippling waters, channeling their life-giving essence. Her tattoo-like markings flow with sacred geometry, harkening the ancient Tuatha De Danaan faery race and harmonizing her earthly form with the divine. A serpent coils around her arm, a symbol of the oracular Pythia in the Melissae tradition of Delphi bringing in transformation, wisdom, and the cyclical rhythms of nature.

Behind her, ancient standing stones rise, mirrored in the watery depths, creating a portal between realms of the southern to the northern hemispheres of her ancestral cultures. The cosmic sky above blends with the fertile earth, uniting the celestial and terrestrial. This evocative work honors the sanctity of water, the divine feminine, and the timeless guardianship of sacred spaces.
